UPDATE 6:23 PM: Snyder’s people are denying the report from Vulture, telling Heat Vision, “While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.” The representative clarified that means no Episode VII, VII or IX, and no spinoffs.
Zack Snyder told the Los Angeles Times that he wasn’t directing a film in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy. That apparently didn’t mean he wasn’t directing any Star Wars films. According to a report by Vulture, he’s on board to direct a stand-alone Star Wars film. It will reportedly be loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 film, Seven Samurai.

Fun fact for you: Toshiro Mifune, one of the stars of Seven Samurai, was initially offered the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode IV. Well, the director may be a surprise, but the film this will be based on isn’t. George Lucas told the Telegraph back in 2005 that “it’s a brilliant, brilliant film, and every time I see it I can’t believe the magic mixture of a great story and great acting and humour and action and suspense — wonderful cinema. The art of moving pictures is on every frame of this movie.”
